Boston Dental Implants
Missing Teeth?
Mini implants – an essential part of restorative dentistry and cosmetic dentistry – are artificial roots that are surgically placed into the upper or lower jaw bone and secured under the gums. Over the past decades, our office has dealt with many patients suffering from tooth loss during emergency dental care by our trained emergency dentist. The procedure is performed by a prosthodontist (a doctor with expertise in restoring and replacing teeth) and a periodontist (a doctor with expertise in the gums and supporting bone). The teeth attached to the cosmetic bonding restore and often enhance a patient’s smile in a natural-looking way, while also ensuring that the teeth function as they should.
At BCOH, we are here to guide you through the entire tooth implant process.
Since 1923, our team of dentists at Boston Center for Oral Health have been providing family and cosmetic dentistry, which includes specialties from general dentistry to highly-trained dental prosthesis specialist Dr. Sam Shamardi, a worldwide expert in the field of full mouth dental implants. Dr. Sam Shamardi can perform procedures, giving you new teeth that look and feel like your own. We can replace missing teeth and also provide fixed solutions to full dentures. As your family dentist, our goal is to prevent being your 24 hour emergency dentist.

What are denture implants?
Permanent dentures are the closest thing to your own teeth. Once placed, they do not come out of your mouth. There are multiple advantages of these types of dentures over traditional dentures. Because the dentures are anchored to the jaw using metal screws that function like the roots of natural teeth, you will not have to worry about the dentures becoming loose or falling out, and you should be able to eat foods that you were unable to eat before. We offer different types of dental implants depending on each patients’ particular needs, such as mini dental implants. Zimmer Biomet Dental and Straumann are our two most popular companies we use.

Reasons for getting titanium implants:
- Replace one or more missing teeth without affecting adjacent teeth, (i.e. tooth bridge)
- Resolve joint pain or bite problems caused by teeth shifting into missing tooth space
- Restore a patient’s confident smile (teeth straightening)
- Restore proper chewing, speech, and digestion
- Restore or enhance facial tissues
- Support a bridge or denture, making them more secure and comfortable
What does the process involve?
It requires several visits spaced out over the course of several weeks or months, in order to allow time for proper healing. If a tooth extraction is needed to make space, our team includes oral surgeon Dr. Bonnie Padwa. The dentist will first insert a small titanium screw where the root of the missing tooth was originally located. After this step, patients must allow time for the jaw bone to heal and secure the new restoration(s) firmly in place. Once healed, the patient will have a strong foundation on top of which the permanent replacement tooth (or denture set) can be placed. During the initial healing phase, patients may be fitted with a temporary replacement tooth, temporary bridge or temporary denture set — depending on each patient’s unique circumstance — so there is less disruption to the normal look and function of teeth while the procedure is being carried out. Sometimes, a patient may require wisdom teeth removal. If you have a chipped tooth, they can be fixed with porcelain veneers.
Pain medication and antibiotics will be prescribed as needed in order to ease the recovery process for the patient. Patients will receive care instructions at the conclusion of the procedure. Proper brushing, flossing and regular dental visits will aid in the life of dental prostheses.

Am I a candidate?
In order to get dental implants, a patient must have adequate bone in their jaw to support the structure. Therefore, the ideal candidate should have good oral health and healthy gum tissues that are free of periodontal disease. As for the question of, “How much are dental implants?”,that is all dependent on a patient to patient basis. At your initial visit, our dental experts will evaluate your teeth, gums and jaw bones to determine whether you are eligible for the procedure. Once your care is completed, regular teeth cleaning is required.
Affordable Dentures
The phrase, “affordable dental implants” is not often associated with a private dentist providing concierge level dentistry. At BCOH, each person receives tailored, individual care. What is considered affordable dentistry? It is when all the options are considered, budgeted, and presented to the individuals seeking affordable dental care.
The next time you are searching for “dentists near me” or a “dental clinic near me”, looking for an affordable dentist, or have any questions about implant-supported dentures, available payment options, let Boston Center for Oral Health be your urgent care dentist. We are here with answers. Please contact us or schedule an appointment.
Dental Implants FAQ
Dental implants are artificial tooth roots that provide a permanent base for fixed, replacement teeth or removable dentures. They are made of titanium, a biocompatible material that integrates with the jawbone, mimicking the function of natural tooth roots. The dental implant procedure involves surgically placing the implant into the jawbone, allowing for a sturdy foundation for the replacement tooth or dental prosthesis that will be attached to the implant abutment.
To determine if you are a good candidate for dental implants, your dentist will assess your oral health and the condition of your jawbone. Ideal candidates typically have healthy gums and sufficient bone mass to support the implant. If you have experienced bone loss, a bone graft may be necessary to create a solid foundation for the implant. Age is not a barrier, and many people in their 60s and 70s successfully receive dental implants.
The dental implant procedure generally involves several steps. First, you will undergo a thorough examination, including X-rays, to plan the placement of the implant. Next, during the surgical procedure, the implant is placed into the jawbone. After this, a healing period allows the bone to integrate with the implant. Once healed, an abutment is attached, and finally, a custom dental prosthesis is made to match your natural teeth. The entire process can take several months but offers long-lasting results.
Caring for your dental implants is crucial for their longevity. Regular oral hygiene practices such as brushing, flossing, and routine dental check-ups are essential. Additionally, maintaining good oral hygiene around the implant will help prevent infections and complications. Your dentist may recommend specific cleaning tools designed for use around implants to ensure you keep the area clean and healthy
The entire process can take several months, as it often involves multiple stages: placement of the implant, healing, and attachment of the crown. Your dentist will provide a detailed timeline based on your individual needs.
With proper care and regular dental check-ups, dental implants can last a lifetime. They are designed to be durable and functional, just like natural teeth.
Caring for dental implants is similar to caring for natural teeth. Regular brushing, flossing, and dental check-ups are essential to maintain your oral health and the longevity of your implants.
